Bicycles, Motorcycles & Scooters

Classified as one of the first modes of transportation dating back to the early 19th century, Miami’s Auto Museum at The Dezer Collection features an extensive array of bicycles in its “World of Bikes” exhibition. Originating in Europe, the world’s first bicycle was developed in Mannheim, Germany and the term ‘bicycle’ was coined by the French in the 1860s. Among the early examples of bicycles were the Draisine, the Velocipede, The High Wheel Bicycle, The Hard-Tired Safety and The Kid’s Bike. Miami’s Auto Museum at The Dezer Collection’s “World of Bikes” exhibition features over 200 one-of-a-kind bicycle models such as:

    • Whizzer
    • Schwinn
    • Raleigh
    • Durkopp
    • Steppke
    • Road Master
    • Dozen’s more

The next stage of evolution for a two-wheeled riding mechanism was the motorcycle, which originated in the second half of the 19th century. The first two-cylinder, steam-engine motorcycle powered by coal was invented in 1867 and followed by invention of the gas-engine motorcycle 20 years later in Germany. It wasn’t until the early 20th century that one of the most renowned motorcycle companies would emerge in the United States, introduced by William Harley and friends Arthur and Walter Davidson. The Harley-Davidson Motor Company is credited with showcasing the first motorcycles with high-quality, gas-powered engines. The museum features a large assortment of motorcycles including:

    • Harley Davidson
    • Indian
    • Triumph
    • BSA
    • Norton
    • Honda
    • Dozen’s more

A motorcycle equipped with a different frame, Scooters originated in Germany in 1915, but didn’t gain global popularity until the mid 1900s with the invention of the Vespa, manufactured by Piaggio in Italy. Today, Piaggio represents Europe’s largest manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles. Featuring over 400 Vespas, Miami’s Auto Museum at The Dezer Collection owns the largest collection of Vespas in the world. Some models include:

    • Vespa
    • Piaggio
    • Cushman
    • Dozen’s more
